Hollis won the overall in 2014.
Thousands of people turned out to Calder Park raceway on Sunday afternoon to witness CDR Yamaha rider Chris Hollis hang on to his overall lead and be crowned champion of the 2014 Australian Enduro-X Nationals.
After a disappointing opening race which saw Hollis take eight place overall, the Yamaha rider came back to ride the final two races extremely consistently – finishing third and fourth in each race to be crowned champion.
The Melbourne round promised to entertain and did not disappoint, with a tough course set out giving riders plenty of headaches.
In the Pro Class, American Mike Brown showed why he is so highly rated around the world in this discipline, taking first, second and second from the three final races.
Privateer Beau Ralston had a wonderful day and looked set to cause a huge boil-over in the battle for round honours with a second and first place from the opening two races.
However he had a few issues in the final race finishing eventually finishing seventh – still enough for the motocross rider to take second outright on the day.
KTM rider Toby Price finished strongly with a win in the final race of the day to claim third overall for the round – it wasn’t enough to catch Hollis outright and he finished the series in second place overall.
CDR Yamaha rider Daniel Milner finished fifth overall at the Melbourne round, which was enough to see the talented Victorian finish on the podium outright in third place.
In the Expert class, a tight leaderboard heading into the final round meant that a win in the final to Nic Tomlinson saw him take the outright championship victory, while Robert Nowak’s third place elevated him into second overall.
Ben Alfred managed fifth place in the final of the clubman class giving him the overall title ahead of Blake Hall and Brayden Zillman, while in the Women’s class a flawless event from Jessica Gardiner saw her take outright honours ahead of Tayla Jones (third in Melbourne) and Kristie Mckinnon (second for the event).
Ruben Chadwick and Stuart Holt finished second in the Juniors competition at Calder Park, giving them the same placing in the outright leaderboard for the series. Ben Kearns finished third outright.
And in the Vets over 35 class, second place on the day to Owen Lock (behind Cameron Donald) was enough to see him runaway to the overall series win ahead of Andrew Jackson and Lee Pearsall.
